Completed Projects

Following the successful launch of its Commercial Division, Compton Buildings has installed buildings throughout Great Britain for a variety of commercial applications. The following list identifies some of the many Compton Commercial customers with a brief summary of the work completed. Recent Project Summaries: 1. Yorkshire Housing, Wakefield - Safeguard garages have been installed in blocks of 4s, 3s and singles with plain panels instead of the regular Spar finish, so others can render them with a mix of York Stone and brick effect designed to fit in with their surroundings. 2. Eden Housing Association, Penrith - Despite intense competition from several competitors, Eden chose to install batteries of Safeguard garages because their high quality specification could not be matched. 3. Plume Housing Association, Maldon, Essex - Installation of 65 Safeguard garages in several blocks including back to back and 152mm (6') stepped blocks of garages. 4. Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Gwent - 37 Safeguard Stores were installed as concrete sheds alongside properties in an area benefiting from EU regeneration funding. 5. Durham City Council - The high degree of vandal resistance provided by Safeguard was a key factor in Durham City Council's decision to choose Compton Commercial over the competition. 6. Maidstone Borough Council - Compton were able to supply a cheap alternative to fully brick built garages by incorporating brick ties into their Standard Battery Garages enabling single skin brickwork to be incorporated by others. 7. London Borough of Haringey - Following privatisation of the refuse service, Safeguard stores have been chosen to act as temporary storage of white goods and oversized products awaiting disposal. Reading Council

Client: Reading Borough Council Type of works: specification and erection of nearly 100 Safeguard garages across several sites for Reading Borough Council's community housing scheme The size of Reading Borough Council's garage replacement plan was a challenge that the new Compton Commercial division really wanted to get their teeth into. Provision of both an excellent product and service was the top priority after hearing the news that another supplier had let them down. Compton's ISO 9001 quality management approval and ten-year guarantee were looked on favourably. The high specification and flexibility of the new Safeguard Battery Garage helped convince Reading Borough Council to place their order with Compton. Safeguard's ability to cope with stepped bases on a sloping site was a distinct advantage here with steps of 152 mm (6') and 227 mm (9') accommodated. Ideally suited to community housing schemes, such as Reading's, the product provides a high degree of vandal resistance. The garages are constructed from a unique wall panel measuring 400 x 2110 mm in heavy-duty concrete with steel reinforcement at panel edge and vertically up the centre. This reduces the width of the panel dish to 100 mm, which together with the steel-framed, fully retractable, key-sprung, 4-point locking, plastisol door, significantly reduces the risk of illegal entry. Supported by steel roof trusses, with factory applied rust proof coating, all Safeguard buildings feature vandal resistant, high tensile, box profile, mushroom coloured plastisol coated roofing. Grafo-Therm anti-condensation is then applied to the underside of the roof sheet. The garages include robust concrete gutters with a factory-applied bitumen coating, doorposts with cast-in aluminium down pipe and galvanised reinforcing bars to eliminate the risk of corrosion. As part of a plan to replace garages originally built in the 60's and 70's, nearly 100 Safeguard garages have been erected across several sites for Reading Borough Council. Providing a specification unrivalled by the competition, Safeguard garages are cost effective to buy and maintain, will be fitted rapidly and come complete with a ten-year structural guarantee. Railtrack Project

Client: Railtrack Contractor: Osborne Rail Type of works: supply of 28 garages as part of a rail flyover development to ease Eurostar bottleneck congestion Compton Commercial has successfully delivered an order for 28 new garages that will enable the development of a rail flyover to ease Eurostar bottlenecks. Delivered on time and within budget, the development involved the relocation and enhancement of garage facilities that previously occupied land required for the proposed multi-million flyover. The Railtrack project, located at Shortlands Junction, south east London, will enable trains arriving on different routes from various London termini to maintain speed and avoid unnecessary delays, rather than having to slow down and await a green light. The new garages will provide local residents with improved temporary garage and storage facilities, whilst enabling a smoother more efficient rail service too. Howard Muir, general manager at Compton Commercial said: ìIts been a challenging project, but working closely with key contractors and to carefully planned timescales, we were confident from the outset that we could deliver the project successfully. Barry Elswood, Project Director for Osborne Rail, the main contractor for the project, commented: ìOften the preparation for projects of such significant size is key to their success. Omni multi - purpose building for Steyning Grammar School

Chichester architects Harding Neill & Watson working on behalf of West Sussex County Council chose ComptonÕs Omni Multi-Purpose Building System for the new accommodation for the groundsmen at Steyning Grammar School. The main building has a width of 7.47m, a length of 12.75m with a 3.50m eaves height. The lean-to width is 3.75m with a 2.74m eaves height. The building was erected in 6 working days in the school holidays at the end of July 2004. Penfold Public Works Limited installed the foundations, drainage and internal fitting out.

Omni multi-purpose buildings - New Headquarters Building for 1st Towcester Scout Group

In October 2003, the existing scout headquarters of 1st Towcester Scout Group was so badly damaged by arson that demolition and rebuilding was required. Dave Courtney, the mastermind for the replacement building for Towcester Scouts, contacted Compton Buildings. With the specially sized Compton Omni Building able to use the existing base and money available from a mixture of insurance, grants and fund raising activities and with assistance from local specialist companies, Compton were instructed to proceed in January 2004. In mid April, immediately after demolition and site clearance was complete, Compton delivered the building shell and then completed their work in less than three weeks. Scout volunteers and an array of specialist companies then commenced the fitting out. The project was completed in September 2004 with the grand opening on the 31st October 2004. So, less than 12 months after their disaster, Towcester Scouts now have an attractive, modern, energy efficient Scout Headquarters fit for the 21st century with which they are highly delighted. April 2004 Ð The Omni building shell (erected on the existing base) was completed in just three weeks and ready for fitting out. October 2004 Ð Fitting out and decorating completed and ready for the official opening ceremony and celebrations.
